We continue to have great attendance at the workouts. Great enthusiasm as well.
The weather was very windy this afternoon which made for some challenging running on the back stretch of the track. Luckily it was sunny so it wasn't too miserable weather wise.
We got an introduction to the long jump today by Coach Kevin and there seemed to be plenty of interested participants. Hopefully we can find a few that have some talent there. The dynamic warmups when we do our jumping and bounding will be of great benefit in this event.
All the runners who were not involved in the long jump did a tough workout of "long" intervals. This will improve areobic capacity, strengthen legs, and help establish pacing for the 800, 1600, and 3200.
I think everyone who started completed the workout in fine fashion. This is not an easy one so I was very pleased with the effort.
Special recognition goes to Jesse who did an extra interval or 2 because he finished earlier than anyone else. Also noted was our first "cookie toss" from Eva after finishing her last 400 under her prescribed pace. It is not my intention to make anyone sick, but kudos to her for pushing herself.
Tomorrow the 400, 800, 1600, and 3200 will do a recovery run out on the street. The purpose of this is not to push the pace, but to do a longer run at a steady pace and finish it without too much discomfort. Hopefully the winds will have died down some. The sprinters will work on block starts and do multiple short bursts of sprinting. Maybe we will even break the relay baton out!
