Well, I am back from vacation and finally getting around to posting our results from our last meet on March 27 in Ephrata. We had a good turn out of kids to compete. Even had a couple of kids who were not eligible to run that went along for the ride!
The weather was pretty good. Cold in the morning when we first arrived, but warmed as the day progressed. A little breezy, but not enough to affect any performances.
So, down to the details.
1. Ofelia Rodriguez capped an amazing opening week by setting personal bests in each of her events again. As of today she has the best mark in the league in the 100m and 3rd best in the 200m.
2. Bronte Toolson set a pr in the 100m, but had suffered some sickness earlier in the week so was not in top form for the 400m. I expect to see continued improvement as the season progresses.
3. Adriana Guzman- Another pr in the 400m! Adri has looked really good and I can see that she still has not maxed out yet either.
4. Jackie Guillen- Did well in the long jump (over 11'). Ran the 300m hurdles on a voluntary basis (I love it when kids ask me if they can do a certain race!) for the first time and looked good!
5. Stephanie Quiroz- Cleared 12' in the long jump and was part of our relay teams.
6. Cheyanne McFadden- Returned from sickness to pr in the 800m. Will only continue to get better.
7. Thalia Lepley- Personal best in the 800 by over 10 seconds! We have a runner on our hands here and we did not even know it.
8. Kyla Chavolla- Chugged through the 3200 in fine fashion even though the starter miscounted her laps.
9. Areli Alejo- Team best result in the discus. I expect improvement each meet from Areli as she gets into better shape.
10. Liliana Morales- Good discus result with room to improve.
11. 4x100 relay- Steph, Lia, Liliana, and Jackie competed in this for the first time this year. Definite room for improvement in getting the exchanges down, but we have time to work on that.
12. 4x200 relay- Ofelia, Bronte, Adri, and Steph ran a season best time.
Boys
1. Ty- Pr in the high jump and ran the 100 and 200 as well.
2. Rocha- First meet of the year. I know he was disappointed in his 100, but ran well in the 400 and exceptionally well in the 4x400.
3. Paul- Huge pr in the 800. Will only get better as the season goes on.
4. Marcus- Our highest finisher with a 9th in the 1600 and 10th in the 800. Ran a 5:03 1600. Will for sure break 5:00 by next month.
5. Juan- Ran well in the 1600 and 400. Seemed a little intimidated by the size of the meet.
6. Casey- Discus not up to his expectations. One of these meets he will get a huge pr.
7. 4x400 relay- Season's best by Casey, Marcus, Ty, and Rocha. Almost got Chelan at the tape! We will continue to improve at this race.
8. Luis - threw the shot put for his first measurement of the year. The big fella will improve as the year goes on!
I was proud of the kids and think they had a great experience running against top competition. Probably the most talented group of runners we will face this year.
