On Tuesday, April 13, we went to Bridgeport for their invitational meet. It was nice because there were only 5 schools there, so it was a smaller meet against schools similar in size to us. It gave us a chance to see how we stack up!
I tried to give the kids a chance to try some new events that perhaps they haven't done before. We also had a couple of kids that this was their first meet, so it was great to see them in action.
The girls placed 2nd overall and the boys placed 3rd. We had some nice individual results, but we had so many kids run, it might be easier to go by event rather than individuals.
Let's cover the boys first:
110m High Hurdles- Casey Sorenson ran this for the first time and won! I appreciate his willingness to try this as this is a pretty scary event to do.
100m- Ty placed 5th and Bailey 6th. Both prs. Paul, Leonel, Marcus, and Jesse also ran and got prs as well.
1600m- Paul got 4th place and pr by 24 seconds! I think he can still drop his time by 10-15 seconds this year.
400m- Marcus finished 4th. Prs for Marcus, Leonel and Juan.
300m Hurdles- Jesse ran this for the 1st time and won! Nice job.
800m- Juan ran a pr here.
200m- Bailey got 2nd and Ty 3rd.
3200m- Marcus placed 2nd and Jesse 5th. Juan and Mykah also competed well here.
Mykah, Casey, and Luis carried the day for us in the field events. No one placed, but we got some good efforts.
Girls results:
100m hurdles- Jackie got 2nd. Unfortunately she fell during warm ups so she was off her game and lost her confidence. Hang in there Jackie!
100m- Itzel placed 2nd and Eva 3rd. Also running well were Adri and Cheyanne.
1600m- 1st place for Eva and 3rd for Cheyanne and 4th for Adri. Good job girls!
4x100 relay- Mireya, Lea, Lili, and Jackie got 3rd.
400m- Itzel 1st place. Bronte 3rd and Thalia got 5th.
300m hurdles- Eva got 3rd. She could have done better, but they had 2 of her hurdles at the wrong height so it threw her off her stride.
800m- Bronte placed 4th.
200m- Another 1st place finish for Itzel. Bronte got 5th.
4x400 relay team placed 2nd.
Long Jump- 3rd, 4th, and 5th for Bronte, Itzel, and Adri. Bronte prs by over 18 inches!
Discus- Excellent 2nd place by Mireya. Nice pr to boot!
Javelin- Mireya prs again and gets 5th.
Our next meet is Friday at Eastmont. Another meet with lots of schools there.
I couldn't be happier with the results and almost all the kid's efforts. They make me happy.
(Shannon is now spending part of her time with MS track. I discovered it is difficult to be photographer and timer, so this week the photos are just of the kids enjoying the social part of track!)
