We decided to do something new this past weekend. Thanks to the support of the Manson School District, we were able to arrange for a special meet in the Seattle area that included an overnight stay. The meet is highly competitive, so we were able to take just a few of our athletes with us.
We arrived at Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood at about 5:30 pm on Friday afternoon. We shopped at the mall for a couple of hours. Most of the kids found something they wanted.
At about 8 pm we ate at Spiro's in Mukilteo for some Italian cuisine. The restaurant was kind enough to put us in their "party" room so we didn't disturb the rest of the patrons. Lots of pizza and pasta!
We spent the night at the Toolson's house in Mukilteo. The boys slept on one side of the house and the girls on the other. The adult chaperones slept in between the two rooms!!
We went early the next morning to Snohomish High School for the track meet. The main theme for the day was the weather. Unfortunately, it was wet, windy, and cold for the whole meet. It was hard to get psyched up to run your best under these conditions.
We still had some memorable performances that should be mentioned.
Our first event of the day was the boy's distance medley relay, which consists of a 1200, 400, 800, and 1600. It was a new event we had never run before. The boys did great, running around a 12:30. Marcus led off with a 3:33 in a distance he had never run before. Ty ran an outstanding 54 second 400. Paul then ran a personal best 2:25 in the 800 and Jesse finished strong in the 1600.
The girls then ran the 4x200 relay. Unfortunately, we had an exchange that occurred outside the exchange zone so we were disqualified. The girls were given the run around trying to check into the race and I think that threw them off their game.
Ty ran a good time in the 100m.
Ofelia also ran in the 100m at 14.18, which is just off her best time. She also ran a nice 29.49 in the 200m, again just off her best time.
Marcus ran a great 1600 in 4:53, especially considering the conditions. This puts him 10 seconds ahead of his times from last year. I expect him to drop another 10-12 seconds off this by the end of the year.
The boys ran the 4x100 relay. Not their best time, but I think it was real hard to get warmed up and ready to go after sitting in the cold for several hours.
The girls also ran the 4x100. They did a nice job, beating their best time this season by almost 2 seconds. Their team consists of Stephanie, Ofelia, Adriana, and Itzel.
Paul and Itzel competed in the open 400m and did nice work.
Jesse then broke his pr in the 300mH by almost a second.
In the field events, Casey and Alex competed in the discus. Panda broke his pr twice on consecutive throws! Good job. Casey threw over 120 feet and was our highest placer at the meet in 18th.
I think we were all happy to pack up and leave the cold behind at around 5 pm, arriving back in Manson at about 9:30pm. It was a great time and good experience.

Could that meet have been any colder? Yikes! Let's do our next travel meet in Southern CA!
ReplyDeleteGood job Manson, good for you Kurt and Shannon for taking good care of them.
